Perched dramatically on a cliff overlooking Honeymoon Bay, sits the enchanting Bay Cottage. It's a magical setting with such a unique charm and peaceful feel...there's a gentle spirit to the house and setting that one can't miss. It's calming.
Upon your arrival you may be thrilled by the cry of the local bald eagles soaring above the towering trees that frame the Bay Cottage. The eagle's cries, just over your head, will stop you in your tracks - and you'll listen.
Get ready for a treat when you enter the cottage; your first glimpse is of views of Baby Island just across the harbor; once a sacred burial place of the local Indian tribes.
As you approach closer, passing through the kitchen into the great room, two sets of floor-to-ceiling French doors reveal even more. The view will literally lure you to step out onto the large wrap-around deck. There, you'll take a fresh breath of sea air and absorb the magnificent mountain views on the horizon, dominated by Mt. Baker.
Closer below, in Honeymoon Bay, is a postcard perfect view of fishing and sail boats in the bay. At night, the gentle bobbing of the mast lights at anchor sets a visual metronome that adds to the peacefulness of the setting.
There are covered walk around decks that allow you to move freely around the property. You will marvel at all of the plantings, the work of a master gardener, and be amazed at how it almost seems to be a different eco system with each corner you turn. Such is the charm of the grounds of the Bay Cottage.
The interior is not less of a marvel. The decor is upscale, warmly whimsical and welcoming, with many touches that will delight. The consulting designer, Rebecka Regis, sought a gentler woman's touch, with colors, textures, and designer lighting that set the mood, warmed the spirit, and provided a calming environment that would remove guest from their workaday world.
She succeeded.
The walls are painted in soothing Tuscan tones and the linens and fabrics brighten every room to complement the cottage's growing art collection. The floors, except for evergreen slate in the entryway, are rich, warm hardwoods, graced by beautiful collector's rugs.
The master bedroom, which is light and bright, is the hallmark of the home with charming accents, and flowing curtains that evoke the ethereal feel of the famed old Delano Hotel in Miami's South Beach.
For the ultimate sleeping indulgence, claim the room with the queen sized Tempur-Pedic bed. Marvel at the French doors that open to a private water view and sitting area that allows you to slip discreetly to the uniquely situated cliff's edge hot tub.
This is a hot soak you will never forget!
This suite also features an utterly charming private bathroom - imagine heated floors and true spa shower system pampering you.
For the gardener in the family, the patio bedroom's French doors open to a sunny warm cobblestone garden patio with antique wrought iron furniture. It is here, next to the giant lavender climbing clematis, where birds, raccoons and bunnies may wander by as you enjoy your morning coffee.
You'll also see deer tracks as there is a Doe and two babies who live in the nearby forest...be careful when you pull out of the drive, they are often there.
After breakfast, warm your feet on the second bathroom's heated floors, or take a leisurely bath in the old fashioned claw foot tub...what a fun indulgence.
If relaxing, pondering the view, reading or movie watching is on the agenda, then curl up on one of the over stuffed sofas and wrap yourself in one of our warm throws. Or just tuck yourself into one of the cottage's two reading nooks, or out on the covered veranda.
Add some warmth and romance with candles, surround-sound music, a fire, and maybe a good wine.
Now you are feeling better.
Of course there is stereo flat screen TV entertainment system if you want to watch one of your old favorites; there is a good selection of movies in the seaside village of Freeland at the end of the Harbor.
If you muster up the energy, you can take a walk down your own private path to the beach sunning area below.
When it comes to dinner, but no rush, there is a true gourmet kitchen awaiting. The fully-appointed custom designed country kitchen has everything you want with all amenities and stainless steel appliances. It's a great place to cook and keep up dialogue with your family and friends as the kitchen area opens to an antique chandelier lit dining area with a charming country table.
From there the great room design flows to a beautiful, romantically lit living room centered around a wondrous hearth and fireplace whose design dates from when the home was built decades ago by an old sea captain. You never doubt why he picked this spot after a life at sea to settle down.
If you want a truly restful, calming vacation, or just a weekend away to unwind, recharge or reconnect with a loved one, the Bay Cottage was built for you.
